a dear, dear friend of mine is moving tomorrow, and in addition to sadness over her leaving (seriously, i'm more than a little heart-broken), her move has made me all introspective about my own new york experience. as she re-visits all of her city favorites, i can't help but think about what have i done in the city? am i making the most of my time here?
(which at this point, thankfully, has no foresee-able end. i'm just being pensive.)
it's so easy to get caught up in the "want-to's" and "haven't yet's" that i forget to think about what i have seen and experienced. therefore, i sat down and made a list. a list of places i've been to, things i've done, parks i've visited, museums i've frequented. and to be honest, i took myself by surprise. spencer and i have actually done a lot! our "to-do" list is a mere fraction of the "done" list. true, if you looked at the list, you'd notice that the majority of items are free or cheap...or that our parents have taken us to the expensive things.
but still, it just goes to show that you can visit and enjoy nyc without shelling out the big bucks!
anywho, on the other hand, you'd also notice that spencer and i don't really have a list of favorite restaurants. you DO have to spend money when you eat out, and other than dollar pizza and dumplings, we haven't done a whole lot of that. but, oh-ho-ho! just you wait! i have a list of places i want to eat at, and it is looooong! ready that wallet, mr. ricks!
in crossing off another item off our, well, let's be honest, MY bucket list, spencer and i went to our first nyc pro-basketball game. a friend of mine was getting tickets for her husband for christmas and asked if we'd like to join in. since spencer and i don't give gifts to each other, i knew this would be the perfect surprise! to make the gift even more spectacular, the game was nets versus kings, meaning spencer could see his favorite player live: jimmer fredette. (we are avid byu fans)
lucky for us, spencer didn't have to work, so out to brooklyn we went!
and let's give jay-z two thumbs way up for a stellar stadium!
but a two thumbs down for not saving me courtside tickets.
